NextWave Plastics Wins Silver at 2022 Anthem Awards

Thanks to the commitment of NextWave member companies, NextWave Plastics has earned global recognition for its collaborative effort to shift the status quo,  recently winning a Silver distinction in the Webby’s inaugural Anthem Award competition. The inaugural competition received nearly 2,500 entries from 36 countries worldwide. Since 2017, NextWave member companies have prevented the equivalent of over 257 million water bottles from entering the ocean. In 2021, members accelerated our combined diversion of ocean-bound plastic by 98% over 2020. It’s our collective mission to keep plastic out of the ocean and in the economy. Shinola, Veritiv Among Latest Companies to Scale Use of Ocean-Bound Plastics through NextWave Plastics

Shinola and Veritiv join NextWave as the consortium recently celebrated four years since its launch. In that time, NextWave member companies have diverted 2,316 metric tons of plastic from entering the ocean and in 2021, saw a 98% increase in annual diversion over 2020.

NextWave Plastics Wins UN’s Sustainable Development Goal Action Award

MAR 25, 2021

Ambassador Giorgio Marrapodi, Director General for Development and Cooperation with Italy’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, handed out the Connect award to Dune Ives of NextWave Plastics. By creating the first ever global network targeting multinational supply chains to keep plastic out of the ocean, the initiative’s members have prevented over 1,300 metric tons of plastic from entering the ocean in just two years.

 

NextWave Plastics 2020 Annual Report & 2021 Strategy

When we published our inaugural annual impact report in March 2020, we could not have known what the remainder of 2020 would hold. Even during an uncertain year, NextWave member companies reported a 70.5% increase in utilization of ocean-bound plastic over 2019 levels and launched over a dozen new product use cases. NextWave Plastics member companies continue to demonstrate that change is possible at scale and remain committed and optimistic about a future with clean seas, but more action must be taken today.

 

Lonely Whale Joins World Economic Forum's Plastic Pollution Platform

Lonely Whale joins leading organizations from the civil society and private sectors to become a member of the Global Plastic Action Partnership (GPAP), the World Economic Forum’s platform for advancing progress in the fight against plastic waste and pollution, as well as transitioning governments, businesses and society towards a sustainable, circular economy for plastics. Averda, Borealis, Bye Bye Plastic Bags, Lonely Whale and The Ocean Cleanup officially signed on to GPAP at the 2021 Davos Agenda.

 

NextWave Plastics Named Finalist in UN’s Sustainable Development Goal Action Awards

NextWave Plastics is an open-source initiative convened by Lonely Whale, connecting and uniting traditionally competing multinational companies to develop the first global network of ocean-bound plastics supply chains.
