Sourcing Solutions: NextWave Plastics’ Supplier Database

NextWave Plastics set out to do more than divert plastic waste, we set out to make ocean-bound plastic (OBP) sourcing responsible and accessible.

When the program launched in 2017, the OBP supply chain was fragmented and underdeveloped. Today, more than 100 suppliers are active around the world, thanks in large part to the market signals and collaboration of NextWave members.

As we conclude the NextWave journey, we’re making one of our most valuable tools publicly available: the NextWave Supplier Database. This open-source resource features a vetted list of OBP suppliers and is designed to help others take action faster — whether you're just beginning to explore OBP sourcing or looking to expand existing programs.

While the NextWave program has sunset, the momentum continues. Our Framework for Socially Responsible OBP Supply Chains, developed through years of hands-on engagement, now informs The Circulate Initiative’s Responsible Sourcing Initiative, ensuring that this work evolves in the hands of new leaders.
